Obituary for Johnny Henry Murphy Jr.

Johnny Henry Murphy Jr.
Johnnie H. Murphy, Jr., of Fayetteville,
North Carolina, transitioned from this life on Sunday,
August 26, 2018. He was born in Atkinson, North
Carolina, to the late Rev. Johnnie H. Murphy, Sr.,
and Maryette Murphy. At the age of six, he moved to
Fayetteville, North Carolina, where he grew up and
graduated from Armstrong High School.

He joined the Army after high school graduation. During
his tour of duty, he met and married his wife, Madeline
Jenkins and accepted Christ in his life.

He was such a good person to talk to. You never worried
that anything which concerned you was too little for him to
hear. Johnnie was a good man. He was humble, generous,
and thrived on helping others. His favorite phrase was,
“Treat people right, because you don’t know who will give
you your last drink of water,” and he always ended his
conversation with, “Have a blessed day.”

He was preceded in death by: his parents, Johnnie and
Maryetta Murphy; his wife, Madeline Murphy; one sister,
Virginia Simmons; and one brother, Charles.

He leaves to cherish his memories: his two sisters, Louida
Eller and Coreen Smith (Booker); one step-grandson,
Nathan Chapman; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins,
and friends. Johnnie also leaves to cherish his memories a
special friend, Mae Hickman.
