Obituary for Herbert Lee Buskey

Sergeant First Class Herbert Lee “Bill” Buskey, 85, died
peacefully in Southeastern Hospice House in Lumberton, North
Carolina, after a brief illness on August 9, 2018. A veteran of both the
Korean and Vietnam wars, he served his country 21 years with both
honor and distinction and was awarded the Bronze Star during that
service.
SFC Buskey was born on January 31, 1933, in Orangeburg, South
Carolina, to Hilliard and Hallie Buskey. In 1951, he joined the Army
and served in Korea, Vietnam and the Dominican Republic, as well as
various bases and posts in the United States and around the world. He
won the Bronze Star in Vietnam for heroic achievement in combat.

SFC Buskey was a brave and loyal soldier, as well as a patient and
loving father. He married Alberta Sistrunk in Fayetteville, North
Carolina, in 1954. A fun-loving man, he worked at Kelly-Springfield
Tire Company after retiring from service until 1998. Then he worked
part-time at a bowling alley and golf course. He enjoyed playing cards,
bowling, golfing, gardening and was an active member of Lewis Chapel
Missionary Baptist Church, Foxfire Community Association, and
Samuel Council Chapter of the 555th Parachute Infantry Association
(Triple Nickels).

He is survived by his daughters, Debora Buskey and Shelia Buskey-
Allen; his sons, Herbert (Vanessa) W. Buskey and Stanley Buskey; his
three grandchildren, Brandon (Hannah) J. Buskey, William “Alexz”
Allen and Samantha N. Buskey; and his two great-grandchildren,
Ellison M. Buskey and Gabriel B. Buskey; four sisters, Bessemah
(Jacob) Dwight of Washington D.C., Mary Freeney (Howard) of Silver
Springs, Maryland, Marion (Robert) Sullins of Madison, Wisconsin,
and Thelma (Arthur) Davis of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; and
numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

He is preceded in death by one sister, Marie (Walter) Williams
of Newport News, Virginia; four brothers, Hilliard Buskey, Jr. of
Orangeburg, South Carolina, Ulysses (Dorothy) Buskey of Mobile,
Alabama, Winnion (Geraldine) Buskey of North Babylon, New York,
