Obituary for Eric Alphonso Murdock

God in His infinite wisdom and divine love, called form our midst
our loved one, Eric Alphonso Murdock, to his eternal rest on
Thursday, August 2, 2018.

He was born on April 30, 1951 to the late Frederick Murdock, Jr.
and Ida Thelma Murdock in Washington, D. C.
In 1956, his family moved to Fayetteville and he attended Cumberland
County Schools. In 1967, his family relocated back to D. C. and he
attended D. C. Public Schools. He returned to Fayetteville some
years later and was employed with Burlington Mills in Raeford,
North Carolina. In 1970, he joined his family in D.C. and united
with Wesley Metropolitan A.M.E. Zion Church.

He worked at Colonial Coal Company as a truck driver. He
loved basketball, writing music and playing guitar. In 2007, he
returned to Fayetteville to spend quality time with his children and
grandchildren. He confessed and received Christ in his life shortly
afterwards. He united with Increasing Word Ministry. He is known
by his church family as “Bishop.” Under the leadership of Pastor
Bethea, he studied and grew in the knowledge and wisdom of God.
Serving on the Usher Board and speaking and teaching God’s Word.
He was a bold soldier for the Lord.

He continued to fulfill his ministry as he worked with Behavioral
Counseling and Psychological Services, encouraging and inspiring
all. Eric truly loved the Lord. He stated to us hours before his
passing “I’m ready to go home and be with the Lord.”
A loving father, brother, son and friend. He was preceded in death by
a sister, Alva Clarke and two brothers, Terry and Jeffrey Murdock.

His life is celebrated and remembered by three daughters, Veronica
Murdock of Charlotte, North Carolina, Ericka McGeachy and
Starletta Troy of Fayetteville, North Carolina; one son, Sundahkeh
Bethune of Fayetteville, North Carolina; o e sister, Vera Hamilton
of Washington, D.C.; three brothers, Frederick III, Cevie and Larry
Murdock all of Washington, D.C.; 19 grandchildren; 11 great
grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
